What’s In Loving A Land? (To The Young Man Who Asked)
I heard you -on the radio- ask
a fellow young man
who had professed undying love
for his land.
You queried. I heard.
"What's in loving a land?"
Go, you young man and ask
Amadi my father
to whom
the ownership of land
is not only
a spiritual and economic affair,
but a sign
of
his liberty.
Ask it to her- my mother
who buries her sweat,
feet and soul
in land,
feeds them water,
then implores her Chi
to smile upon them with sunshine
so they will flourish
so she will have life.
My sisters. My brothers.
In Azania. Across Alkebulan.
Ask them:
why they fought- and still fight
why they bled- and still bleed
For land. Their (ancestors) land.
Ask them.
And if you get no answer, dear young man,
after asking them all,
Come to me. And ask.
I will answer:
"What's in not loving life?"
