Criteria —
Submissions critically + creatively explore topics that dwell within the domain of Africa and the African diaspora globally. Please refer to our About section + SUNU Manifesto to get a sense of SUNU’s goals and some themes/topics of interest.
Written works:
We welcome scholarly essays, creative prose, criticism, interviews, reviews, poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Essays should be no more than 8000 words. When submitting, please send work in a Microsoft Word document. If your work has accompanying images, attach them separately to the email, include as much metadata/pertinent information as possible, and a list of captions. High-resolution images are preferred unless the nature of the work does not call for them or low-image quality is justified (i.e. if your work includes certain kinds of archival material). If including audio to accompany your piece, you must submit in an mp3 format. See “Audio” section for more details
Visual works:
We welcome art works, photography and moving image (film/video) that communicate African/Afro-diasporic stories, themes and issues. Please ensure images are high-resolution (exceptions are made for certain video art/format) and please include at least four images/stills, with full metadata (titles, captions, dates and all pertinent information). If submitting a film or video, please provide the link to your work and a synopsis.

We welcome audio/recorded content including (but not limited to): interviews, recitations of work and field recordings. Audio may be accompanying or stand-alone submissions. Audio file must be in an mp3 format. Please provide full meta data and context of the recording.
ALL submissions must include full name, affiliation, country, email address, and a brief bio.
ALL submissions must be original, unpublished and must not be in violation of copyright laws.
Please email your submission to info@sunujournal.com and include “Submission” in the subject line, as well as the category (i.e. Submission — Photography)
If you have submitted your work elsewhere for publication, do let us know if it has been accepted.
We will reach out to potential contributors whose works we are interested in publishing.
